The Student Union of SIS

Established in 2005, the Student Union of SIS was one of the earliest student organizations of SIS. Following the educational objective of SIS--“Going global”, the Student Union of SIS takes daily lives and development of the students of SIS as its own responsibilities, thus it has organized a series of fantastic and influential activities, which has not only enriched the extracurricular lives of the students, but also showed the unique features of SIS.

Under the leadership of the presidium, the Student Union of SIS consists of nine functional departments, managing nine recreational and sports teams, including the art troupe, the cheering squad, as well as ball game teams. Through eight years of development, the Student Union of SIS has formed a comparatively perfect mechanism for its internal organization, division of labor and coordination. In addition, it has also established its unique culture, trying to make its members feel at home.

The principles of the Student Union of SIS are: meeting the needs of the faculty and students, keeping pace with the development of SIS, broadening the thinking in work actively, and basing on the realities when pursuing high quality. It has initiated a bunch of academic and sports activities as its own brands: the Big Bang English Series shows the linguistic charm of the students of SIS; the International Cultural Festivals build a bridge for cultural exchanges between Chinese students and international students; the Sports Meeting of SIS spurs students’ enthusiasm for sports and life; , a large-scale service week, themed on youth, provides a chance for students to spread love on campus with their expertise; the demonstration of outstanding dormitories and the exchange of best wishes during Thanksgiving lead students to a positive and companionate lifestyle; and the Frontline of Career and the Interview with Famous Enterprises enable students to better prepare for their career planning.

The Student Union of SIS attaches great importance to its own building. The all-hands meetings enable all members to show themselves, and the internal trainings improve skills and competence of its members. All departments open their distinctive training programs to every member of the Student Union, allowing the members from all departments to learn more skills that suit their interests, so as to improve their personal qualities in an all-round way. The Student Union has been strengthening the training of the student leaders, so as to improve their qualities, letting them to serve as role models to others.

With the joint efforts of all members, the Student Union of SIS has made significant progress. Its innovative spirit and surefooted attitude have won itself a number of titles. From 2011 to 2013, the Student Union of SIS had won the honorary title of “Top 10 Student Unions of SYSU” for three consecutive years. Moreover, not only did it won the championship in the competition for all schools’ student unions of SYSU Zhuhai Campus time and again, but also won all the other awards in this competition, including the Award for Best Service, the Award for Best Publicity and the Award for Best Performance. It has become one of the best student organizations, not just in Zhuhai Campus, but also among all the four campuses of SYSU.

In the coming days, the Student Union of SIS will keep committing itself to serving the students wholeheartedly and making full use of the resources of SIS, so as to build high-quality activities, grow hand in hand with the students, and make progress together with SIS.
