Department of Business Communication

The Department of Business Communication aims to cultivate interdisciplinary English professionals who are qualified for international business- related jobs in governments, international organizations, multi-national enterprises and other institutions. Students are expected to acquire proficient English, global thinking, knowledge and skills in international business, economics, and management, cross-culture communication skills, and exceptional humanistic qualities.

Curriculum Design

The curriculum design by the Department focuses on developing students’ comprehensive knowledge base by integrating knowledge of language, culture and business. Students not only enhance their English proficiency, improve their practical abilities, and learn a second foreign language, but also acquire the latest pragmatic business knowledge, and develop cross-culture communication skills throughout the learning process. Extracurricular activities are also organized to enhance students’ problem-solving ability by applying what they have learned in practice. Business Communication Presentation Competition, our brand activity, is also held to provide a platform for students to develop independent thinking and team spirit.

Faculty

The Department has competent faculty members consisting of full-time teachers and guest professors with a sound academic background and practical experience in business. Most teachers have studied abroad, while guest professors are scholars of overseas universities specialized in commerce, senior executives and government officials. Our current guest professors include Director-General of Invest Guangzhou, Deputy Director of the Zhuhai Education Bureau, and President of Sinotrans Guangdong.

Exchange Programs
Our students are offered abundant international exchange programs organized by SIS and SYSU. With a second foreign language, students are actively and successfully participating in overseas business programs.

The Department has achieved fruitful results in recent years with 52% of our graduates choosing to work in famous enterprises like P&G. About 43% continue to study at renowned universities both at home and abroad, including the University of Manchester, U.K., University of Southern California, U.S., the University of Hong Kong., the Chinese University of Hong Kong., Peking University, Zhejiang University, etc..
