Department of Arabic
Since its founding in 2009, the Department of Arabic has endeavored to meet the demand for practical Arabic professionals in China. Hence, our aim is to cultivate versatile Arabic professionals who are competent for jobs in Arabic translation and interpretation, teaching, scientific research, foreign affairs and trade. Our students are expected to acquire a sound basic knowledge of the Arabic language, knowledge in a wide range of fields, as well as an awareness of similarities and differences between Chinese and Arabic social and cultural communications. They are also required to have interdisciplinary professional knowledge and the ability of independent study.
Course Design
With the mission to nurturing practical foreign language professionals, the Department has adopted an “Arabic + English + Professional Skills” training mode. Students who have completed their two-year academic learning can attend the “3 + 1” exchange program and study abroad at renowned universities in Arabic-speaking countries for a whole year.
Faculty
The Department attaches great importance to quality teaching. The current faculty consists of six experienced professional teachers including two Arabic experts. All have received their Ph.D. or Master’s degrees and have also studied or lived in Arabic-speaking countries.
Facility & Activities
The Department has its own library where students can enjoy a wide collection of books in Arabic language, literature, history, politics, economy, religion, and education.
Various extracurricular activities such as after-class contests and networking events are organized to enable students to apply what they have learned in practice. Students are encouraged to form learning partners with their Arabic speaking peers, by which both can enhance their language proficiency in real-life context.
Exchange Programs
The Department has made great effort to seek co-operation with universities and institutes in the Middle East, Europe and America, enabling students to study abroad and promote their language proficiency at a relatively low cost through exchange programs. The Department has forged partnerships with eight world-renowned universities, including the University of Jordan, Gulf University for Science & Technology, Kuwait, Tanta University, Egypt, Tel Aviv University, Israel and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
