SIS Teacher Ye Weiyin Awarded “2020 Outstanding Individual” of International Education in Guangdong Universities
From December 28th to 29th, 2020, three important events were held in Foshan, including 2020 Review Meeting of the Committee for Foreign Students of Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Association, Training Session of the Management of the International Education in China, First Study Forum of International Education in Guangdong. Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) won the title of “2020 Advanced Group” of International Education in Guangdong Universities, and teacher Ye Weiyin in the School of International Studies (SIS) was awarded the title of “2020 Outstanding Individual”.

Over the years, SIS has developed a comprehensive management system of international students, by adhering to “open” professional cultivation. Since 2008, SIS has received nearly 100 foreign students each year, and since 2017, it has been providing Chinese teaching services for “Belt and Road” Undergraduate Scholarship students in their first year. SIS leaders attach great importance to the education of international students, and devote rich resources to their professional courses, daily management and the design of second classes.

Relying on the SIS diversified platforms and meeting the demand of international affairs management, Ms. Ye became the first full-time counselor in charge of the education and management of international students. Over the past decade, the respectable teacher followed the comprehensive principle of educating and managing international students with warmth and insight. She built a four-sphere education management system, in which the counselor serves as a manager, Chinese students cooperator, international students self-managers and student societies assistants; she built and directed the International Student Association of SYSU for eight years in a row, which is the most complete and professional team of managing international students on Zhuhai Campus, and launched various cultural activities for international students, hence promoting the exchange of students from home and abroad; she also applied theories into her work, having won many prizes for her work and approvals for her scientific research projects.

Leveraging both online and offline resources, Ms. Ye developed adaptability education with SIS characteristics for fresh international students, having strengthened cultural exchanges and shown humanistic care. She invited staffs from the Exit-Entry and Foreigners Affairs Administration Detachment of Zhuhai Municipal Public Security Bureau to make presentations about safety, laws and regulations for foreign teachers and students in the Zhuhai Campus for three consecutive years. She also actively led international students to provide interpretation and translation services for exit and entry cases, since they enjoy language advantages, thus making contributions to the stability and prosperity of Zhuhai. For ten consecutive years, Ms. Ye has organized volunteer teaching activities of international students in middle schools in Guangzhou and Zhuhai, and she also organized these students to bring culture, technology and healthcare skills to Baise, Guangxi, and deliver international art performances to local residents. In addition, Ms. Ye led Chinese students to the countries along the Belt and Road routes to support their education and conduct social researches, and by such a chance, SIS Cambodia Social Practice Group was awarded the title of “Excellent Group” by SYSU in the summer of 2018.
Over the past decade, Ms. Ye Weiyin has actively explored the management model of international students in world-class universities, practicing the “open” professional cultivation of SIS. She has committed to cultivating international students who know China, love China and befriend China to contribute to the development of the “Belt and Road”.
