2021 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Postgraduate Exchange Meeting in Foreign Languages and Translation Successfully Held
At 7:30 p.m. on May 14th, 2021, the long-prepared 2021 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Postgraduate Academic Exchanges in Foreign Languages and Translation was opened. The Ice-breaking Exchange Meeting was held on schedule, in which contestants from universities of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and other provinces and cities participated through VooV Meeting. Professor Zhou Hui, Deputy Dean of the School of International Studies (SIS), Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), attended the meeting.
Professor Zhou made an opening address in the meeting. Firstly, she introduced the new developing objectives and pattern of SYSU and the promising prospects of Zhuhai Campus utilizing the advantageous platform of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. After that, she gave a detailed introduction of, among other aspects, SIS’s educational concepts, faculty, professional curriculum arrangements, talent cultivation, scientific research transition, and postgraduate education. She also pointed out that SIS should take into consideration the characteristics of the discipline of foreign language to cultivate academic talents with solid foundation in humanities, bilingual proficiency, professional qualities and global perspective and high-level, applied talents specializing in translation and interpretation. Lastly, Professor Zhou made a summary of the contributions received for the event, commended the contestants’ academic performance and placed great hopes on students specializing in foreign languages, translation and interpreting.

Later, Huang Chuxin, one of the student organizers and member of the leadership of the Postgraduate Student Union of SIS, presented the schedule of this academic event. She indicated that the preparatory committee would serve the guests and contestants wholeheartedly, hoping that they all would enjoy the event, exchange academic insights and reap valuable friendships in the next three days.
