Stories of SIS Outstanding Alumni Working as Grassroots Leaders (3)
“No concentrated aspiration, no sophistication; no silent devotion, no illustrious achievements.” The road of youth starts with one step. For young people who want to remain true to their original aspirations and undertake missions in hard practice, they should go down to the grassroots and strive on the front line. This is how they keep hard-working and high-spirited, learn real knowledge and understand the true meaning of life. This is how they come up with innovative ideas, and then put them into practice. This is also how they make every step steadier. The alumni of the School of International Studies (SIS) are no exceptions. Presented here is the 3rd part of the stories of SIS outstanding alumni working as grassroots leaders. From their stories, we can see the power of role models.

Looking ahead, I am determined to remain true to my original aspirations and missions and strive for excellence and progress so that my alma mater will take pride in me. Message of hope:
“‘Good youths offer their services wherever they are needed, and those with a strong will never regret working hard.’ As young people in the new era, we should respond to our country’s calls actively, settle in grassroots positions, go deep among the masses, and contribute to the rural vitalization and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. We should dedicate ourselves to the development in tough regions, make great contributions and accomplish great tasks where our motherland and people need us most.”

Si Rong
Si Rong, BA graduate who participated in the program of University Graduates Providing Volunteering Service in Western China and taught in Akto County, Kizilsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
2020 SIS MA graduate from the English Department

I volunteered to teach in Xinjiang as an English teacher in the Junior High School of Akto County, Kizilsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture, mainly responsible for English teaching and research. I’ve learned to keep my feet on the ground and have the courage to break through, which is my biggest gain from work. Faced with difficulties, I must meet them head-on. Looking ahead, I’ll continue to work as hard as ever. All in all, I’ll keep in mind SYSU’s motto, to be a person “who has both the ability and moral integrity and is able to cultivate charisma and eagers to serve their country”, to make greater contributions to our society and our country.
Message of hope:
“Youths are full of vigor and dreams. Knowledge is the origin of action, and action is the outcome of knowledge. Options are countless, yet the one that makes life more meaningful is to settle and strive where our motherland and people need us most.
“Let’s dedicate ourselves to the grassroots and realize our social values there. In the crucial period of the realization of the Chinese Dream, young people should cherish high aspirations and feel no regret of dedicating their life to the grassroots. The stories of SIS outstanding alumni grassroots working as grassroots leaders have spurred us on to keep the country in our mind, go down to the grassroots, and dedicate ourselves to the causes that benefit our country. Let’s interweave ourselves with the greater self, our country, and work where our motherland needs us most.”
