The 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Postgraduate Forum of Academic Exchanges in Foreign Languages and Translation Studies Successfully Held
From 10th to 13th of June in 2022, the 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Postgraduate Forum of Academic Exchanges in Foreign Languages and Translation Studies was jointly held by Guangdong Society of Foreign Languages (GDSFL), Guangdong Provincial Foreign Literature Association (GPFLA), Hong Kong Translation Society (HKTS) and the School of International Studies of Sun Yat-sen University (SIS, SYSU) and organized by the Postgraduate Student Association of SIS, SYSU. This year’s forum was held both online and offline, and had more than 100 participants from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, and other regions of China.

On the evening of June 10th, participants from universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, and other regions or cities participated in the online Voice of Wisdom ice-breaking session, marking the beginning of this year’s event. Dr. XIE Guixia attended the ice-breaking session and introduced the history of Sun Yat-sen University to the audience.

The opening ceremony of the 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Postgraduate Forum of Academic Exchanges was held on the morning of June 11th. Prof. HUANG Guowen, President of GDSFL, Prof. CHEN Yang, Secretary-General of GDSFL, Prof. CHANG Chenguang, Dean of SIS, SYSU, and ZHENG Hua, Secretary of Party Committee at SIS, SYSU, and over 100 forum participants from universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, and other regions participated, either online or offline, in the opening ceremony.

Keynote Speech Session
Prof. HUANG Guowen, Prof. LI Yun, and Dr. Sai Cheong SIU delivered keynote speeches, covering topics of postgraduate thesis writing, “refugee” writers and the nitarisation of culture, and electronic tools applied to translation research.

Parallel Sessions and the Creative Writing Workshop
The afternoon of June 11th witnessed the holding of parallel sessions and the Creative Writing Workshop. The four parallel sessions were themed on Foreign Literature, Translation Studies, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, and Intercultural Studies and Country and Regional Studies respectively. All were held online. The Creative Writing Workshop was held offline.

Paper Competition and the Awards Ceremony
On the morning of June 12th, the 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Postgraduate Paper Competition in Foreign Languages and Translation Studies and National English Creative Writing Competition Awards Ceremony were held. Twelve finalists presented their papers and took questions from judges concerning their research to compete for the championship of this year’s paper competition.
In the end, Prof. CHANG Chenguang, Dean of SIS, delivered the closing remark for the event.

On the afternoon of June 12th, some of the forum participants and students from SIS, SYSU went to Zhongshan City and visited Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum to experience the culture and historical imprint of the city.

After seven years of development, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Postgraduate Forum of Academic Exchanges has become a renowned platform for young scholars from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau to exchange academic ideas and enhance communication. It also plays an important role in promoting cultural exchanges, cultivating foreign language professionals, and evoking patriotism among young scholars in the Greater Bay Area.
