Passing on Red Genes and Pursuing Our Aspiration in SYSU–Preliminary Contest of SYSU Red Poetry Reading Competition on Zhuhai Campus Concludes Successfully

On the evening of November 19th, the preliminary contest of SYSU Red Poetry Reading Competition was held at the academic hall of S.T. Wu Center for Academic Exchange on Zhuhai Campus division.

The competition was sponsored by the Organization Department of SYSU Committee of the CPC, and organized by CPC Committee of International School of International Study (SIS), and Party Branch of SIS Postgraduates of 2018. All 16 teams of Zhuhai Campus performed in this competition, and nearly 300 members of the Party branch of the departments and schools attended the competition.

The guests and judges invited to this competition include: Feng Shuang, Director of Campus Development and Management Committee; Zhong Yibiao, Director of Student Affair Office and Secretary of CPC Committee of International School of Business & Finance (ISBF); Chen Shengping, Secretary of CPC Committee of School of Marine Sciences (SMS); Cao Xin, Secretary of Party Branch of School of Civil Engineering (SCE); Huang Yongping, Secretary of General Party Branch of School of Chemical Engineering and Technology (SCET); Li Jizhong, a member of CPC Committee and an associate research fellow of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU; Xu Yao, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee of Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology (SFINET); Jia Yanjiang, Deputy Secretary of Party Branch of School of Marine Engineering and Technology; and Chen Youzhi, Deputy Director of Campus Development and Management Committee, Director of Zhuhai Campus Administration and Secretary of CPC Committee of SIS.

The competition started with a speech of Secretary Chen Youzhi. He expressed his gratitude to all the participants for their active reaction and cooperation and delivered his wishes for the competitors. He hoped the audience could learn more about the history of CPC and SYSU, develop the “red genes”of our university, and carry forward our revolutionary spirit.

Reading classic poems, singing red poems, or dancing, each team gave its best performance one-by-one. They demonstrated the lofty aspirations and the spirit of striving for excellence of SYSUers and expressed sincere loyalty to the party and the country.

The CPC Committee of SIS sang the praise of the touching love story between SYSU elder generation of revolutionaries Zhou Wenyong and Chen Tiejun through the reading and dancing performance of "the Wedding on the Execution Ground"; CPC Committee of ISBF celebrated SYSU for their revolutionary spirits and national loyalty during the Anti-Japanese War through “Memorable Days and SYSU Spirit”; School of International Relations (SIR) introduced the revolutionary struggle of generations of SYSUers through “Revolutionary Inheritance toSYSU”; Party Branch of SMET expressed their great love to our country through “Hello, My motherland”; Party Branch of Department of History (Zhuhai) took the audience back to the tumultuous years to experience the revolutionary spirits of the revolutionary predecessors through “A letter home to report the national situation”.

After rounds of performances, Director Feng Shuang and Director Zhong Yibiao made their comments Director Feng Shuang praised this event as a spectacular one. He stated that the competitors made great efforts to their performances and were professional in facial expression, skills of reading and costume selection, showing the style of SYSUers. Director Zhong Yibiao made humorous remark on the performances. He said the subjects selected were novel and representative and it was impressive how they resorted to the combination of different performing techniques. The selflessness spirit of revolutionary predecessors was displayed vividly.

According to the rules of the competition, CPC Committee of SIS, CPC Committee of ISBF and General Party Branch of SIR entered the final.

Awarding the first prize

The Red Poetry Reading Competition was a complete success. This activity enriched the activities of party organization and was conducive to enhancing the organizing strength, cohesion, and fighting capacity of grass-roots party organizations. It truly achieved the purpose of "making good use of the red resources, carrying forward the red tradition, and passing on the red genes."
