Research Project by Dr. Luo Xuejuan from SIS Approved

Recently, the "13th Five-Year Plan" Program of Education and Science of Guangdong Province published the list of special research projects on universities’ philosophical social sciences in 2019. Dr. Luo Xuejuan from the School of International Studies (SIS) was awarded approval of her research project, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Public Opinion Analysis and External Communication Strategy Based on Deep Learning.
Dr. Luo Xuejuan, chair of the SIS Translation Department of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and of the International Public Opinion Research Team, graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1999 with a dual degree in Law and English. Later she graduated from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in 2005 with a master degree in linguistics and applied linguistics, and obtained a Ph.D. degree in linguistics and applied linguistics from SYSU in 2015. Her main research interests are translation technology teaching, discourse analysis and international and regional studies.
The project leverages the multilingual and cross-disciplinary advantages of the school and university, combines basic research with applied research and professional cultivation with discipline development with a scientific research team that has a systematic structure and clear division of duty. It is based on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to serve the strategic needs of the “Belt and Road Initiative”. For SIS, the approval of this research project demonstrates the advantages of development mode featuring “humanities, bilingual proficiency and global perspective”, increases the scientific research capability and can contribute to the in-depth development of the International and Regional Studies effectively.
