Teng Yuhui from the Department of Korean Wins Prize in “2020 South China Online Contest for Korean Language Entries”

       Recently, the results of the “2020 South China Online Contest for Korean Language Entries” were announced. The South Korean People's Sense of the Indivisibility of the Body and the Land by Year Three student Teng Yuhui from the Department of Korean of the School of International Studies (SIS) won the "Best Entry Award".

Due to the pandemic, the contest went from offline to online. All contestants were required to submit a video within 5 minutes about Korea in Korean. The video was evaluated according to its content and quality. The contest was for both Korean and non-Korean major students and the general public from the four provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan and Guangxi. Students majoring in Korean from Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, South China Normal University, Guangxi Normal University, Zhuhai College of Science and Technology, Guangdong Baiyun University and other universities in South China participated in this contest. SIS student Teng Yuhui out-performed a large number of contestants and was highly appreciated by the judges for her good pronunciation, profound conception and authentic expression. Finally, she won the “Best Entry Award”, which fully demonstrates the solid professional foundation and good humanistic quality of the students in the Department of Korean in SIS.

In recent years, the Department of Korean in SIS has stayed committed to the academic style construction principle of “study at SYSU and pursue excellence” and deepened its professional reform comprehensively. While focusing on the double-base teaching (the teaching of fundamental knowledge and elementary skills) and the quality of teaching strictly, it is also striving to improve students' professional strength and comprehensive quality by various activities, such as “Korean Language and Culture Week”, “East Asia Academic Salon”, “Top Students Workshop”, “Weekend Conversation Tutorial Class” and “Head Teacher-Guided Reading Group”, so as to creates a good atmosphere for pursuing further education. In November, 2020, the Korean major of SIS was selected as a first-class undergraduate major construction site in Guangdong. In the future, the Department of Korean will continue to uphold the fine tradition of "unity and love, harmony and progress", adhere to the fundamental mission of "moral education", and strive to provide students with a first-class environment for growth and success.
