Research interests: Global Critical Mineral Supply Chains: Geopolitical competition, resource governance, andstrategic responses of major powers in Africa. As global political and economic competition between China and other leading world powers continues to grow, this raises several important issues such as how to govern access to mineral resources, the sustainability of extraction methods used in the production process, and China's future global strategic position with respect to all of the mineral supply networks that exist globally. While the need to conduct research on these topics has become a priority, there continues to be an absence in the available literature of interdisciplinary research that brings together the engineering aspect of mineral processing and industrial systems with social science. For example, many of the sociopolitical or economic implications associated with mineral exploitation throughout Africa cannot be fully understood without first having a thorough understanding of the engineering and technical processes associated with extracting and processing minerals. China supports this research with use of implementing priorities for establishing maintaining supply chains from critical minerals, while working cooperatively towards sustainable international resource usage during time periods of global economic transformation through this type of effort.
